As a current subscriber to Oprah’s magazine, I was excited to see that the new issue that arrived in my mailbox was for her 10th anniversary (of the magazine). I like the show and the magazine (usually). However, this issue really pissed me off.
Overall, the majority of the issue was pretty good. It featured the “best” from certain topics over the past 10 years the magazine has been issued. I especially liked the articles written by people like Eckhart Tolle, Adam Glassman, Mehmet Oz, Nate Berkus, and Bob Greene. Personally, I’d like to see more that Oprah actually writes. But that is beside the point…
What has me angry is the fact that the special portion called “O’s Anniversary Gift to You!” featuring items under $10 (which normally cost more) were unavailable! I tried to purchase 2 necklaces, a ring and a purse (from 3 different websites) and none were available!
I really wanted these items, so I wrote to the companies. They said that since it was a “limited time offer” and they only had 100 of said item that they no longer could give this deal. 100 of the item featured in Oprah’s magazine which goes out to over 200k subscribers and who knows how many people buy elsewhere. Not acceptable! One of the websites (for the purse) even said next to the purse that they were sold out and not to even contact them about it because it was a “limited time offer.”
I’m willing to bet that these items were “sold out” with the special code way before this issue even hit stands. Workers of the magazine more than likely told family and friends about this amazing deal and snagged up all of these way before any of us regular subscribers could – what an anniversary gift to the people who actually buy your magazine Oprah!
I e-mailed the address listed on the Oprah magazine about this. It is unlikely I’ll hear back, but I can hope!
Has anything like this happened to you? What makes you angry about things like this?
