Faeryland by John Matthews

Faeryland by John Matthews is a magical book about faeries that enchants the reader from the first page to the very last. Open up this book, and take a trip to Faeryland.

Book Description
The author of Abrams’ How to See Faeries (with Brian Froud) opens the land of faerie to all readers. The book provides a broad overview of faeries, including a Who’s Who of Faeries; Good Faeries vs. Bad Faeries; Faerie Courts; Faerie Spells; and Faerie Sightings. Faeries of the British Isles as well as those of Scandinavia, Germany, North America, and even the Asian, Arabic, and African worlds are discussed. Matt Dangler and other contemporary fantasy artists bring the land of faerie to life alongside such fine artists as William Blake, Henry Fuseli, and J. M. W. Turner. Faeryland contains an envelope of faerie photos to use as postcards; an invitation from Puck to a Faerie Ball; a 19th-century faerie pull-out map (currently housed in the Library of Congress!) and more.” – Faeryland

My Thoughts
Faeryland is a beautiful book about faeries. As someone who loves faeries (no matter how you choose to spell it), I collect everything about faeries that I can. This is one of the books that I truly love that focuses on all things fae. So, if you love faeries as much as I do, or perhaps you know someone who does, this is a must-get book!

So, what makes this book so awesome? The artwork is my favorite part to the book. It is in full color, the cover is sparkly, and all of the artwork features faeries and faery landscapes. The parts of the book that are interactive is also fabulous. You get an invitation to the Faerie Ball from Puck, faerie photos, faery map, and more. The history of faeries and information about the different types was well researched, and is a joy to read. I highly recommend it for everyone fascinated by faeries and want to take a trip to Faeryland.

The Tiptoe Guide to Tracking Mermaids by Ammi-Joan Paquette

The Tiptoe Guide to Tracking Mermaids by Ammi-Joan Paquette is a fun children’s book that will take kids on an adventure to find mermaids. The illustrations are a mixture of realism and artwork that makes for a beautiful way to give kids a sense of imagination and adventure.

Book Description
Have you ever walked on the beach and looked for shells or clams? There are creatures, more like you and me, who are even more interesting to look for. Most people don't see them, but they might just not know how to look for signs. That sand dollar - why, that could be a mermaid-size surfboard. Those twisted reeds - a bed for a lovely afternoon mermaid nap. And if you peer closely into the water, you might see a mermaid market.

This is a lovely activity for a fun day at the beach and a way to encourage paying close attention to all the interesting things that can be found on the beach or in the water.” – The Tiptoe Guide to Tracking Mermaids

My Thoughts
The Tiptoe Guide to Tracking Mermaids is a beautifully designed book to bring an imaginative fun-filled day for children going on a mermaid tracking adventure at the beach. If you don’t live near a beach, or aren’t visiting one soon, you can always alter this to be at a lake or river, mermaids surely live there, too.

This book isn’t just for kids, the parents who read this with their children will enjoy it, too. It is a delightful book, and if you are reading this with a child who is just starting to learn to read, it will be even better helping them through it, and discovering mermaids and magical things with each page.

The creative insight with this book is fantastic. I absolutely love how much fun it is, and how it brings imagination, a sense of wonder and adventure to adults as well as children. I highly recommend it.

The Tiptoe Guide to Tracking Fairies by Ammi-Joan Paquette

The Tiptoe Guide to Tracking Fairies by Ammi-Joan Paquette is a magical book about finding fairies in your own backyard or a local park. Designed for children to be inspired to start a fairy finding adventure of their own, this beautiful book is likely to inspire the adults who read it, too!

Book Description
Could a tulip be a good place for hide-and-seek? Could a bitof dandelion fluff be a pillow? They could be, if fairies live nearby. This book invites kids to have a backyard adventure searching for the tell-tale signs of fairies who might be residing all around them. Not only can children search for fairies in the book's unique blend of art and photography, but they will also be encouraged to discover the wonder and magic in nature, whether in a backyard or a local park. The Tiptoe Guide to Tracking Fairies is a perfect title for summer!” – The Tiptoe Guide to Tracking Fairies

My Thoughts
The Tiptoe Guide to Tracking Fairies is such a delightful book for kids and adults alike. Those who love fairies will truly enjoy reading this book with a little one, and sharing with them the wonder and fantastical element of fairies. The artwork is absolutely beautiful, and enhances the book with everything fairy dust could imagine.

The author sends the kids off on a backyard adventure that will have them looking for the elusive little fairies who may be living nearby – if one only cares enough to look. This encourages them to get out in nature and also be kids and have fun.

This is a perfect children’s book about fairies, and I highly recommend it!

Faery Craft by Emily Carding

Faery Craft by Emily Carding is a charming book that looks into the faery realm, and the people who are drawn to it. It is a guidebook on all things faery. It isn’t too focused on beginner ideas of the faery, and not too advanced for beginners to be lost on the subject. It really is a perfect balance for both beginners and advanced faery explorers to enjoy this book.

Book Description

Working with the Faery realm is not about escaping from reality—it is about engaging with it on every level. Prepare to embark on a spiritual journey unlike anything you’ve ever known! Faery Craft is a comprehensive guide to the modern Faery lifestyle and an essential handbook to human-faerie relations. Brimming with practical and spiritual advice, you’ll discover how to use Faery magick, create altars, and find a Faery ally. Learn about proper etiquette, find your unique gifts, use the Faery zodiac, explore Faery festivals around the globe, and much more.

Enjoy nearly 200 beautiful photographs alongside original art, poetry, and meditations, as well as interviews with renowned Faery authors, artists, and musicians. R. J. Stewart, John and CaitlĂn Matthews, Brian and Wendy Froud, Linda Ravenscroft, S. J. Tucker, and Charles de Lint are all featured in this glittering introduction to the fae and the people who love them.” – Faery Craft

My Thoughts
Faery Craft is the type of book on faeries that I absolutely love. It is loaded with information, art, exercises for us to try, and personal experiences. Carding writes with such passion that it really made me as a reader become involved in the book, and want to try out these exercises too.

The book is divided into brilliantly designed and outlined chapters including: knowledge, connection, trust, honour, magick, joy, inspiration, and balance. I enjoyed them all, and found the knowledge chapter to be especially interesting because the fae may not be who or what you originally thought after reading this important chapter.

This is a beautifully crafted book about faeries. It has everything I’d want out of a book about faeries including history, personal accounts, interviews, poetry, artwork, photos, and so much more. I love this book, and if you are interested in the faery kingdom, I think you will like it, too. I highly recommend it.

Goblinproofing One’s Chicken Coop by Reginald Bakeley

Goblinproofing One’s Chicken Coop by Reginald Bakeley is a complete manual on how to identify fairy creatures, track them down, defend yourself, and banish them from your home. Bakeley explains how not all fairies are created equal, and even those cute flower fairies aren’t quite as innocent as you may think.

Book Description
Help is on the way! In the tradition of Lemony Snicket and Roald Dahl, Goblinproofing One’s Chicken Coop shows how to banish those pesky dark fairy creatures who are ready to thwart every last pleasure, be it gardening, country hikes, or even getting a good night’s sleep.

In this charming guide, “fairy hunter” Reginald Bakeley offers practical instructions to clear your home and garden of these unsettling inhabitants, and banish them from your chicken coop and kitchen cupboard forever!

In Goblinproofing One’s Chicken Coop readers will discover: Why a bustle in one’s hedgerow may be cause for alarm. Why a garden fumigator may come in handy on evenings at the pub. Why a toy merchant, a butcher, and a Freemason are among your best allies in the fight against the fey.

Goblinproofing One’s Chicken Coop is the only complete manual on how to identify, track, defend, and destroy those bothersome brownies, goblins, dwarves, scheming flower-fairies, and other nasty members of the fairy realm.” – Goblinproofing One’s Chicken Coop

My Thoughts
Goblinproofing One’s Chicken Coop is a fun read about serious defense against the fairy realm with considerable wit and humor. Friends and enemies of the fairy kingdom will find amusement in this book, and perhaps a trick or two to use in dealing with fairies.

As a fond lover of the fairy realm, I don’t exactly like the antics of capturing and getting rid of the fairies, but I do agree there are some that should not be allowed to run around in one’s home or chicken coop. I certainly wouldn’t want to eat an egg from a chicken that was actually a goblin, would you?

Overall, I found this book to be very witty, and written very well. I liked it, and I think if you also enjoy fairy stories, or perhaps have a hidden evil fairy in your house you want to get rid of, you’d like it, too.

A Complete Guide to Faeries and Magical Beings by Cassandra Eason

A Complete Guide to Faeries and Magical Beings by Cassandra Eason covers everything from the origin of fairies to evidence of these fantastic beings. Exercises for you to experience them are also included, so if this is something you have been interested in, this is a great book to start your fairy journey with.

Book Description
A Complete Guide to Faeries and Magical Beings is a wonderful companion for those who wish to tour an enchanted world. Cassandra Eason begins with the myths, legends, and real evidence surrounding the origins and existence of fairies and then takes us on a journey throughout the world to introduce us to the many different varieties of these mysterious beings.

From fairies to Viking giants, selkies to gnomes, fey beings abound. In this spritely volume, Eason shares fascinating anecdotes of people who have actually seen them. And if you'd like to meet them yourself, Eason also provides simple techniques, exercises, and rituals to attract, find, and communicate with the little people. Hang silver bells by a window. Keep potted plants in your home. Or sit quietly between two oaks at dusk or dawn.

Fairyland mirrors universal human issues: fortune versus misfortune, fate versus free will, perfection and imperfection, illusion and objective reality, different time scales, the existence of parallel dimensions, and the duality of human nature. Some people even believe that fairies are becoming more visible again, as they were in pre-industrial days, to remind us of the consequences of consumer society--the danger of being seduced by our own versions of fairy gold.” – A Complete Guide to Faeries and Magical Beings

My Thoughts
A Complete Guide to Faeries and Magical Beings is one of my favorite books about fairies, and I’ve read a lot of them. I’ve been enchanted by the fae ever since I can remember, so everything I am lucky enough to find with them, I take the time to read and enjoy. This book ranks up in the top of my list, so I am really happy I get to share what I think about this book with everyone.

This book goes beyond just a simple guide; it explains and gives evidence for the fairies. The amount of research that went into this book is amazing, and it is compiled in a very easy to read and enjoyable manner. There are many different types of fairies, and the author does an excellent job differentiating between them. What I enjoyed most in this book is all of the exercises that were added to help the reader really connect with these fun and sometimes mischievous nature spirits. If you do buy this book, be sure you don’t just skip over these.

If you or someone you know loves fairies, this is the book to read. I highly recommend it.

Fairy Tale Rituals by Kenny Klein

Fairy Tale Rituals by Kenny Klein is gives a surprising look into the dark and mysterious side of the popular fairy tales we all grew up with. Be ready to throw your old thoughts for these tales out of the window after you read this book!

Book Description
“Magical and mysterious, Faeries are also subtle, sexual, sublime, stubborn, erotic, enticing, dark, and deadly…

So you think you know Snow White? You’re acquainted with Sleeping Beauty? You’re quite familiar with Beauty and the Beast? Fairy Tale Rituals explores the eerie, seductive Faerie lore lying just beneath the surface of eleven favorite fairy tales.

Feel the fear and passion these stories once inspired in ancient listeners. Learn how to create modern rituals that will bring the archetypal magical characteristics of these fairy tale icons -- the sexual attractiveness of Snow White, the totem animal journey of Rose-Red, the manifestation prowess of Cinderella -- into your own life.

Each tale here is explored in two ways: first by looking at the story itself, with an eye toward its mythic roots and magical elements. Next, a powerful ritual or spell is presented based on the characters or events of the tale, which you can use to find a true friend or lover, glimpse the future using divination, celebrate a coming-of-age ceremony, honor the spirit of death, and much more.” – Fairy Tale Rituals

My Thoughts
Fairy Tale Rituals is a very enjoyable and interesting read for someone such as myself who loves fairy tales and fairies in general. I was really excited to read this book because I quite enjoy reading about the original stories to the fairy tales I grew up with. Sure, they are more dark and eerie, but that is what I find more interesting about it.

This book first explains and gives the original story of the tale - not the Disney version of it or the one we were told as children. In the next part, the author gives a ritual that you can use in your life to use some of that fairy magic to use for yourself.

The fairy tales covered include:
Snow White, Snow White and Rose Red, Hansel and Gretel, Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, The Frog King, or Iron Hans, Rapunzel, Strong Hans, and The Rose.

If doing a ritual isn’t your thing, that is okay. This actually only makes up a small portion of the book. The majority is spent on the fairy tales that are covered in the book. Personally, I really like how the format of the book was laid out and I probably won’t use the rituals. So, reading more about the story and how it was originally really was more interesting to me.

Overall, I found this book to be extremely interesting and written exceptionally well. I never knew just how much all of the stories covered changed so much over time. If you like fairy tales or faeries too, this is really a must read book!

Creating Fairy Garden Fragrances by Linda Gannon

Creating Fairy Garden Fragrances by Linda Gannon is a journey of the senses to a magical fairy realm. If you want to celebrate the seasons by creating enchanting scents for your home, this is a must read book!

Book Description
“Mix Up Some Magic with Herbs, Fruits, Flowers & Essential Oils

Stir your imagination and summon enchanted creatures by bringing the fragrances of the garden into your home. Creating Fairy Garden Fragrances will help you to fully embrace and celebrate the changing seasons with recipes for bewitching blends of dried flowers, herbs, and fruits including: Dance of the Morning Nymphs, Pan’s Song, Midsummer Night’s Dream, Enchanted Forest, All Hallow’s Eve, and Christmas Magick.” – Creating Fairy Garden Fragrances

My Thoughts
Creating Fairy Garden Fragrances is a book that explains how to create your own scents for certain times of the year for your home. It is also a book that explains fairy lore and also why certain scents or flowers are used for certain fragrances. The fairy lore may not be the main reason you purchase this book, but it will provide many fantastic tales for you to share when someone asks about your potpourri or when you give it as a gift.

Although I was unable to make all of the types of fragrances featured in this book, I did make the “Midsummer Night’s Dream” fragrance for summer. It smells absolutely divine! I can’t wait to make more fragrances later.

I recommend this book for everyone who likes to make easy crafts projects. These fragrances are perfect for using in your own home and also sharing as gifts.

Faeries: Deluxe Collector’s Edition by Brian Froud and Alan Lee

Faeries: Deluxe Collector’s Edition by Brian Froud and Alan Lee is a beautiful look into the world of faeries as illustrated by Brian Froud. If you ever wanted to purchase this book or perhaps already own the original copy, this is really a must buy for your collection of faeries.

Book Description
“A quarter of a century after its initial publication, and with more than a million copies in print worldwide, Brian Froud and Alan Lee’s Faeries is a certified fantasy classic. Now, Froud and Lee return to their most enduring and beloved work in this deluxe anniversary edition. This ultimate collector’s book features eight new pieces of art by Froud and Lee with the original pencil drawings and watercolors.

More than just a reissue, this deluxe revised and updated edition contains essays from both Froud and Lee on the continuing influence of Faeries. There is also a foreword by bestselling author Jane Yolen.” – Faeries: Deluxe Collector’s Edition

My Thoughts
Faeries: Deluxe Collector’s Edition showcases just how talented Brian Froud is when it comes to showcasing how he portrays faeries. These are not your run-of-the-mill faeries playing in a meadow in cute outfits. The 200 + illustrations featured in this edition are for adults to appreciate, and yes, some are nude.

Although this is not a book aimed towards kids, it is worth the purchase for yourself (or to give as a gift). Each layout in the book is stunningly gorgeous and has captivating tales to go along with it. It is the type of book that could be devoured in a single night, or left to explore for a long stretch of time by only reading a few pages a day.

Faeries: Deluxe Collector’s Edition is a truly artistic view of faeries. It is perfect for any fan of fairies, book lover of artistic books, and anyone creative at heart. I highly recommend this edition to everyone that adores such things.

How to See Faeries by Brian Froud and John Matthews

How to See Faeries by Brian Froud and John Matthews is a fully enchanting pop-up and pull-out book all about seeing faeries. The artwork is beautiful and the story that goes along with it makes this a perfect book for everyone who wants to see faeries.

Book Description
“International bestselling artist Brian Froud and New York Times bestselling author John Matthews come together for the first time to create a spectacular interactive book that opens the doors to the enchanted world of Faerie. How does one discover faeries in one’s backyard or a garden, forest, or meadow? Through insets, hidden messages, magical signs, reflective mirrors, and other paper mechanics, Froud and Matthews reveal how anyone may discover the way to the land of Faerie. All you need is to believe and to own this book!” – How to See Faeries

My Thoughts
How to See Faeries is a mystical book all about seeing faeries. It is quite enchanting and will easily have you read through it in one sitting, but many times. It is a fun read and all of the hidden messages and pop-ups and pull-outs really make it an interactive read that will leave you wanting to read it again and again.

Unlike some of Brian Froud’s artwork, this book does not include any nude faeries (at least from what I could see). So, it is perfectly fine for kids to read. It is written in a rhyming sort of way that kids would very much enjoy being read to while searching in the pictures for faeries. Some of the pop-ups and pull-outs could be destroyed by younger kids that don’t value books yet, so leave them alone with this book at your own discretion.

I highly recommend How to See Faeries to everyone that loves faeries and needs a little help in seeing and hearing them. If you try, you may just start seeing hidden faeries in your life after reading this book.

Fairy Magnets Review

Looking for some beautiful artwork for your fridge, locker, or other places you can put magnets? Magnetic Fantasies is an online shop where you can purchase some seriously cool artwork for these areas (or anywhere else really).

Fae Forest is the retail website that you can buy these fairy artwork magnets from. The fairy magnets are available in two sizes: 5” x 7” and 8” x 10” at affordable prices. Plus, they are made in the USA (which apparently is something quite rare these days).

Fairy artists are added regularly to the available magnets you can purchase at this shop. Some of the artists available right now include: Selina Fenech, Jessica Galbreth, Amy Brown, Linda Biggs, Julie Fain, and many more for you to discover.

Thanks to Fae Forest, I was able to review two of these fun fairy magnets. Here are the ones I selected to review:

Small Things by Selina Fenech

This is one of my favorite pieces of artwork by Selina Fenech, so I do love it. It comes with a protective clear frame to protect the artwork, and a magnet on the back to securely hang the art. This piece is really quite beautiful and works well on a fridge, in a frame, or even sitting on a shelf.

Rhiannon by Jessica Galbreth

This is a really beautiful piece of artwork by Jessica Galbreth. It isn’t technically of a fairy, but it is quite enchanting and features Rhiannon, the Celtic Goddess of Inspiration and the Moon. Lovely!

The fairy artwork magnets from Fae Forest are a great way to add some fairy magic to the space you want to decorate. The quality is great and I don’t think you would be disappointed with your purchase of these fairy magnets. They are versatile to use where you want to put the artwork and would make a great addition to any fridge or bookshelf!

Thank you to Fae Forest for providing me with the magnets to review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Linda Biggs: International Rainbow Fairy Artist

In the world of fairy artists, most of you know about the regulars already. So, in this post I will not mention them. I am instead introducing you to one I just recently stumbled across that I absolutely love. Hopefully you will also love her very colorful and stunningly beautiful artwork too.

Linda Biggs, the “International Rainbow Fairy Artist” took a big fairy leap of faith back in 1999 when she started her fantasy career. She is a painter that loves to paint fairies, mermaids, and other magical creatures.

Check out some pictures of my favorite artwork created by Linda Biggs…

What I also love is that her artwork ranging from originals, prints, notecards, postcards, posters, coloring kits, tote bags, and even tattoo usage is affordable. Of course the originals are considerably more expensive than a print, but even some of these are very affordable for original artwork.

If you are looking to have some works by Linda Biggs, I suggest purchasing the book “Her Rainbow World” by Emerson Probst that features her artwork and details her journey. This is a fabulous art book that you could find many uses for. You could also purchase prints of some of your favorite pieces, which is a very affordable option as well.

No matter what your fairy budget is for a unique fairy item for yourself or others, you will find something by Linda Biggs that you just can’t live without!

Check out Linda Biggs website for further details on her artwork and purchasing her beautiful artwork and products.

Thank you very much to Linda Biggs for giving me sample prints of her artwork and “Her Rainbow World” to review for review purposes. All opinions expressed are my own.

Fairy Necklaces –Perfect Fairy Gifts for Adults!

Looking for the perfect fairy gifts for adults? Well, you are in luck because this fairy lover has some fantastic ideas for you to purchase for gifts (or for yourself). This is the first post in many that I plan on featuring some spectacular fairy artists and beautiful fairy gifts you can purchase.

I love fairies, but aside from Tinkerbell it can be rather difficult finding fairy gifts for adults in regular stores. Tinkerbell gifts for adults? No, thank you! Sure, those are fine if you really love Disney and have a little girl too. However, adults really need something better, but, as I said, it isn’t always easy to find.

The New Age store closest to where I live is an hour away, and it just recently closed down. They didn’t usually have many fairy items, but it was my main hope when I walked into the store. A few years ago though, I gave up hope on “local” stores for fairy items and started purchasing my fairy gifts online, which is where you will be able to also find all of the items I will feature right here on my Blog.

One of my favorite online fairy stores I found is called FairiesandFantasy.com. It features a huge range of fairy and fantasy related items that really do make the perfect fairy gifts for adults.

Fairy jewelry is perhaps my favorite gift because you get to wear fairy artwork. Art prints are of course beautiful ways to show fairies off in your home, but when you wear jewelry with the artwork featured, you get to show it off to the world!

Fairy artwork in a pendant is a really beautiful way to showcase that you love fairies and also have a unique and fun style. There are a wide range of art pendants by Selina Fenech available on the Fairies and Fantasy website. Below are two that I got to try out…

Art Pendant – Dragon Skies by Selina Fenech

This beautiful pendant is made with a lead free pewter setting with an archival print of Selina Fenech’s “Dragon Skies” artwork set under glass. It is 30x50mm in size and can come with either a black beaded necklace or with a Victorian ribbon.

I tried this one with the black beaded necklace. It looks absolutely stunning with the black beads! I wore this with a simple outfit – jeans and a black tee. The only thing special to the outfit was the necklace, and I got tons of compliments with it! It is really a conversation starter and will send other fairy lovers your way to admire the beautiful artwork.

Art Pendant – Roses and Thorns by Selina Fenech

This beautiful pendant is made with a lead free pewter setting with an archival print of Selina Fenech’s “Roses and Thorns” artwork set under glass. It is 30x50mm in size and can come with either a black beaded necklace or with a Victorian ribbon.

I tried this lovely fairy necklace with the pink Victorian ribbon. The pink ribbon complimented this fairy pendant beautifully. It looks great with a pink or white top, but could also really go nicely with black or gray too. It isn’t supposed to attract love, but I like to wear it in hopes that it will.

Both of these necklaces are of fine quality, didn’t ever get caught in my hair, make me itch, or turn my skin green. They are really a great deal and perhaps the best fairy jewelry gifts for adults!

If you are looking for more perfect fairy gifts for adults, you should also check out the fairy mirror compacts, earrings, fairy tarot cards, shoulder bags, figurines and more Fairy and Fantasy Art and Gifts at FairiesandFantasy.com.

366 Celt by Carl McColman

366 Celt by Carl McColman is a daily meditation book that is all about Celtic wisdom and lore. It covers many different aspects of the Celts that are highly interesting, and will have you reading more than one day.

Book Description
“Drawing on myth, folklore, poetry, and the tales of Celtic gods and heroes, 366 Celt provides 366 daily meditations to show how anyone can explore the power of Celtic spirituality throughout the year. Topics covered include:

• The Magic of the Druids
• Animals and plants of Celtic lore
• Fairy stories and heroes of old
• Sacred sites and ancient treasures
• The holy days of the wheel of the year

McColman has a feel for the Celtic spirit and does a fine job of conveying the spiritual practice of hospitality, the bounties of nature, and the sacred nature of place. It is indeed a rare find for all who appreciate traditional Celtic wisdom.” – 366 Celt

My Thoughts
366 Celt is the perfect introduction into Celtic wisdom and lore. If you are interested in the Celts and know nothing about it, or have read about it before, this book is really a must buy for your bookshelf.

It is written so that you could read just one page a day, or perhaps one section a day (or more). I warn you though, once you start reading, you will want to read more than one page or one section at a time!

These sections or “paths” include: Approach, Sovereignty, Druid, Nature, Bard, Mythology, Seer, Neart, Saints, Fairies, Warrior, Otherworld, Shaman, Night, Meditation, Gods, Hospitality, Devotion, Anamchara, Goddesses, Dreams, Sacred Sites, Community, Sacred Days, Virtue, Sacred Animals, Faith, Brigit, Storyteller, Magic, Three Noble Strains, Grail, Romance, Spiral, Imbas and Awen, Sacrifice, Future, Diaspora, Ogham, and the Mystic.

The book is written in an easily flowing way that makes you want to keep reading, and I did. I ended up reading the book in about 2 days. My favorite paths were about the fairies, mythology, romance, and about the Goddesses.

McColman really brings you into the ancient Celtic world with 366 Celt, and inspires you to want to learn more about it, even after you’ve finished the book. Overall, I extremely enjoyed reading this book, and will read it again. I highly recommend this book to everyone who wants to learn about the ancient Celtic world.

* Thank you to the publisher of 366 Celt, Hampton Roads Publishing Company, Inc., for providing me with a copy of this book for review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Fairies Fun Kit

Looking for a fairy fun kit that is perfect for girls of all ages? The Fairies Fun Kit from Dover is just what you’re looking for. Fairies are fun and really make most girls and women smile.

This Fairies kit includes 2 coloring books, including a “stained glass” edition (which if hung in a window is amazing)! It also has 2 sticker paper dolls with beautiful costumes, 6 glitter tattoos, 52 stickers and glow in the dark poster of an enchanting fairy.

You can color these in with various mediums or even scan them on the computer to reuse again and again. This is what I did with one from the stained glass book after I scanned it on the computer and colored in digitally:

Coloring in fairies is fun and actually helps me ease stress from a long day. If you haven’t colored for a long time, give it a try (if not with this set, then pick out another, Dover has a huge variety to choose from).

The paper dolls in this set are so cute! It really brought me back to days when I was a kid and played with paper dolls. That is how I learned to “draw.” Of course, they weren’t the best drawings, but it was fun.

Even if you don’t collect fairies, this is a present that would be great for someone in your life – a daughter, niece, granddaughter, cousin, friend, etc. I highly recommend it for everyone who wants to add in some fairy coloring to their life!

If you like free samples, then sign up to get new ones each week from Dover!

Thank you to Dover Publishing for providing me with this set for review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Dover - Fairy Fashion Review

Fairy Fashion is a beautiful coloring book for the more grown up girl. It has a magical mixture of winged fairies to enchant you while you color. The fairies are dressed exquisitely and are stunningly illustrated.

I love just looking at all the fairies in this book. They are really fabulous and each seems to have a life of their own just waiting for you to color in some way.

This coloring book is great for scanning and then printing out to do whatever you wish with. This helps save the image for you to reuse again and again! Of course you could also color in the images in your coloring book with crayons, markers, paint or anything you want too.

Here is what my fairy looks like after I scanned, printed and then colored in with markers:

Fairy Fashion is a really fantastic coloring book for Kindergarteners and up. I think anyone that loves fairies would very much like this coloring book to add new fairies to their projects or to simply color-in.

Dover Coloring Box – Fairies

The Dover Coloring Box Fairy boxset is a perfect gift for the girl or boy that you know that loves fairies, or perhaps the best way to feel like a kid again yourself.

Set Includes:
• Colorable Box
• Fairyland Hidden Pictures: 24 ready to color hidden pictures
• Garden Fairy Alphabet Coloring Book: fairies and flowers for each letter of the alphabet
• 11x16 two-sided color your own poster
• Crayons

Fairies are one of my favorite magical creatures and being able to color them in really makes me feel like a kid again. I loved coloring when I was young and actually won quite a few coloring contests (and some really great prizes from it too). Coloring was one of the favorite things my Mom and I would do together.

Who would have thought that years later I’d be asking her to color some fairies with me? Well, I did and we colored in some beautiful fairies from this collection and made some new refrigerator art, which is something I haven’t done for many years!

It was a fun afternoon to spend reminiscing about stories from when I was a kid and learning how cute I was. This time though we had “adult drinks” and I think I colored much better (I used some colored pencils I had already). :)

Dover is so fantastic that they even offer sample pages for this set that you can check out, download and print out and color yourself. If you like free samples, then sign up to get new ones each week, too!

I highly recommend this boxset from Dover. It would make a fun gift for a kid, or for yourself – so really you can’t go wrong there! I would however suggest purchasing a bigger set of crayons or colored pencils to go with it to make it that much more fantastic.

Fairies and Magical Creatures: Pop Up Book Review

Encyclopedia Mythologica: Fairies and Magical Creatures by Matthew Reinhart and Robert Sabuda is a popup book like no other. This magical book captures audiences young and old just by simply opening it.

This superb popup book includes the origins of fairies, the many different types of fairies, the fairy realm, elves and gnomes, mermaids, unicorns, phoenixes, griffons, and much more! The information to go with the beautiful illustrations is a truly perfect fit for learning about the many different kinds of fairies and the lore that leaves us fascinated by them.

Book Description:
“Open this entrancing book and meet Shakespeare’s Queen Titania, springing up with her silver wings aflutter. Further on, a crystalline elfin castle rises into the clouds, not far from some scary hobgoblins and trolls. And on a truly stunning spread, a humanoid magical tree spreads its branches to reveal a face within its foliage, while flowers unfold and rearrange their petals, turning into flower fairies. Visiting mythical beings around the world, from household brownies to the merfolk lurking deep below the sea, this breathtaking 3-D book, brimming with facts and fancy, will hold humans of all ages in its spell.

Introducing a dazzling new series premiere! The world’s pop-up masters invite you to peek inside the fairy realm as it transforms before your eyes.”

My Thoughts:
This is one of the rare diamonds of a book I’ve come across in a long time. It is an astonishingly stunning book visually and full of fairy information fully researched. It is to me, the perfect fairy book for all ages.

It is so beautiful though, I would personally not let young children too close to it. They like to grab at things too much and would ruin it. It would be best to read to them with the child (not grabbing at it) and able to look at it in all its glory while being read to. It is a very special book, and if treated properly, it would become a very special book for the child as they grow up as well.

I’ve loved fairies for as long as I can remember. They are simply magical to me, and I’ve read everything I could on them for as long as I’ve been able to read. Finding information on fairies was however, not such an easy task as a child. Sure, there were fairy tales and the most known fairy of all, Tinkerbell. I was rather smart even at a young age though and wanted to know more. Our school librarian just explained they didn’t have anything else available. There was no internet then (or amazing books like this), so googling was out of the question too.

I highly recommend this book for all those who love fairies. It is also a perfect book for someone you know who does, or a child in the family who would love this book as well.

If you are interested in Fairies and Magical Creatures, check out the publisher’s webpage for it. Under the other resources listed for it is a video which shows the popup pages of the book and the other hidden surprises in the pages. Warning: this will make you want the book even more.

Sculpting Mythical Creatures out of Polymer Clay

Sculpting Mythical Creatures out of Polymer Clay by Dinko and Boris Tilov is a magnificently beautiful how to book that teaches you how to make gnomes, pixies, Halflings, fairies, mermaids, gorgons, vampires, griffins, sphinxes, unicorns, centaurs, leviathans and dragons out of polymer clay.

This book is an excellent source for learning how to create the mythical creatures in this book because it was written by internationally known clay sculpting experts. The projects outlined in this book are done so that each project gets more difficult as you progress through the book.

Gnomes are the first project, and while it isn’t my favorite – they actually end up being quite cute in an odd sort of way. It is also shown step by step (as in all sections) on how to do it as well as variations on the project if you want to make something a bit different.

The fairies chapter is my favorite section, even if it is a bit more difficult. The braided hair, fairy wings and clothing looks quite difficult but it gives an enchanting effect. I love too that they show that the wings could easily be made into a butterfly – quite easily too.

The vampire section is also another favorite of mine; my only suggestion was that the vampires should have been made out of white clay (not green). If I ever get really good at making these, I could make variations of the Cullens from Twilight.

The characters are all great for inspiration and the knowledge on making these mythical creatures could be used to make other mythical creatures - or real creatures as well.

The resource page in the back of the book is also a fantastic addition for this book. It is really helpful for those that want to learn more about sculpting, polymer clay, mythical creatures and more.

Overall, I think that Sculpting Mythical Creatures out of Polymer Clay is an extraordinary book that really is able to help everyone from beginners to experts on sculpting these mythical creatures out of polymer clay. I highly recommend it to anyone that is looking for a whimsical creative journey into a mythical world of fun.

My Fairy Name

I love fairies, it is kinda my thing. Some people like butterflies, frogs, teddy bears, etc. Me? I like fairies (butterflies are also quite nice though). I don't have many fairy items or books, even though I would like more. While looking up some info on fairies, I came across this 'Fairy Name Generatior.' My fairy name is below...

Your fairy is called Feather Hailweb
She is a protector of the lonely.
She lives in high places where the clouds meet the earth.
She is only seen in the mist of an early morning.
She wears pale blue like the sky. She has cheery turquoise wings like a butterfly.
