We're NASA and We Know It (Mars Curiosity)

I love geeky things, and this fun video proves that advances in science can make great spoofs, too.  Check out the “We’re NASA and We Know It (Mars Curiosity)” video spoofing LMFAO’s “Sexy and I Know It” tune.

Did you watch it? What do you think of this video? Do you have any favorite spoofs that can be found on YouTube? If so, post them here, I’d love to see them!

2012 Olympics – Gymnastics, Michael Phelps and a Swimming Video – Oh My!

I love the Olympics. I remember watching it when I was a little kid and just being so fascinated with all of the amazing athletes.  It was this reason I wanted to swim all the time (plus I loved swimming) and why I wanted to be in gymnastics. Although I was never an all-star athlete or Olympian, I enjoyed it and have been watching both sports ever since. My favorite is gymnastics and rhythmic gymnastics (in case you were wondering).

This year the Olympics is in London, which is on a side note, somewhere I really have to go one day. If you haven’t been watching any of the Olympics, it is aired on NBC in the USA, and you should really put it on. I’ve been TiVo’ing it so I don’t miss any of my favorite competitions that are aired. We don’t get to watch it live, but that is okay with me. I am a nervous wreck when not knowing if we’ll win things like the Women’s Gymnastic team competition which we won gold in!

I’m so proud of Team USA being so amazing and winning the gold. HUGE congratulations to the Fab Five! Gabrielle Douglas, Aly Raisman, Jordyn Wieber, McKayla Maroney and Kyla Ross are amazing! I can’t wait to see what else they win in.

Also, Michael Phelps is now the most decorated Olympian from his 19th medal win yesterday! He is a beast! A sexy swimming beast that is!

Team USA doesn’t just win medals though; they also have fun and make YouTube spoofs like this one on the song that’ll stay in your head all day. “Call Me Maybe” Olympic swimmer version (really, watch it)!

Are you watching the Olympics? Who are you cheering for? Do you have a favorite sport?

I’m Team USA!

Domino’s Gluten Free Pizza? Not Really

Domino’s pizza chain announced today that they are now offering small (10-inch) pizzas with a gluten free crust in all of their stores across the USA. They partnered with the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness to help make sure that their gluten free pizza met their criteria.

As someone who has Celiac Disease and has also worked at Domino’s in the past, I am highly suspicious of this “gluten free” pizza actually being free of gluten 100% - which people who have Celiac Disease has to have.

As a former employee, I can verify for you that at the location I worked at wasn’t the cleanest, and even pans used to cook food were rarely washed (as in a few times a year). The gluten contamination at Domino’s would not ensure that a pizza with this gluten free crust would in fact be gluten free. In fact, I can assure you that it is likely going to be contaminated.

To push this point further, Domino’s company statement on the matter states that they don’t even recommend this crust for people with Celiac Disease. The company’s release states that “Domino’s and the NFCA found that while the crust is certified as gluten free, current store operations at Domino’s cannot guarantee that each handcrafted pizza will be completely free from gluten.”

People who actually would have to have the crust can’t even eat it. As someone who really misses eating pizza that isn’t homemade, it is quite sad. To me, it seems like they are just trying to jump on the gluten free bandwagon without actually taking steps for people who have to live gluten free to benefit from.

The Fire Burn Doctor

While I was listening to an old episode of Darkness Radio, I was introduced to a group of people that have a website called the Fire Burn Doctor.

They offer their service FREE of charge to anyone who needs help from being burned. If you’ve ever had a burn, you know how painful it is, so having some extra help while on the way to the hospital (for free) won’t hurt any worse, right?

If you or a loved one is burned, call 1-818-332-6445 within 30 minutes of the burn (sooner the better).

You’ll then leave a message with the time of the burn and the victim’s name at birth, date of birth, and place of birth. If you have a picture of the burn victim, you could send that instead. All information is confidential.

They claim that the pain is gone in minutes and the burn is erased in hours. That is amazing! If you go to their website, you can see some of the testimonials and before and after shots of people that they helped that had been burned. There are also some videos to watch, too.

If you are reading this right now, write down the phone number and/or put it into your cell phone. Go to their website, do a little research on them yourself if you’d like. Everything I read about with them makes me definitely want to use them for an extra source of help with burns if me or a loved one is burned.

11-11-11

Today is November 11, 2011 which is 11-11-11. To many, including myself, this means that it is a very spiritual day and possibly a gateway to better things coming into our lives.

One of my favorite authors, Doreen Virtue posted this on her Facebook status update for today:

111111 in Angel Numbers is highly significant of a gateway energy opening where everything is possible. Please align your thoughts and feelings with our collective desires for a peaceful and healthy planet. The angels can uplift you at your request. Thank you for your contribution to this beautiful experience!”

Reading about and working with the angels is something I’ve been doing quite a lot of lately, and if you want to read more about them, I highly suggest reading angel books by Doreen.

Today at 11:11 AM I went outside and just sat on the porch looking out at the lake. Of course my new adopted cats interrupted my trying to meditate, but that was purrfectly okay because they are a precious gift. I haven’t mentioned them on my Blog yet, but I plan on writing up a very special kitty post about them soon. I just need to get them still enough to take some photos. They are very elusive when the camera comes out.

Did you do anything special today? Do you notice any changes starting today? I think I notice some change taking place, but exactly what, I’m not quite sure.

Serial Slasher of Butts…

Northern Virginia has a serial butt slasher on the loose. It may sound funny, but it is quite true. Apparently this man is going around slashing women on the butt with a razor blade or a knife, while they are shopping.

There have been many incidences of this happening but many women have been too ashamed to come forward or thought that it wasn’t a crime. Some even saw the man who did it and didn’t think that he was the one who did it.

When shopping or out in public I always have my guard up and don’t let people get so close to me that they could slash my ass. If this man were to try to do that to me and actually succeeded, I’d turn around and use that knife or razor blade on his ass… literally!

If I couldn’t grab it, I’d chase after him and call the rent-a-cops in the mall after him. He looks pretty chunky and I doubt he could run that fast. Or, I’d beat him in the head with my purse which on some days weighs the amount of a small baby.

What I really don’t get though is how after these women’s butts were cut they didn’t notice or someone else didn’t notice until they got home. They would be bleeding and their pants or shorts would be cut. Also, how could you see the sicko and not assume that he didn’t just assault your bottom?

Future Flooding and Earthquakes in America?

So the world didn’t end as predicted by some quack who claimed it would end yesterday with people being raptured. No offense, but I really hope nobody reading my Blog believed such things!

The “End Times” and prophecies of Armageddon and world ending disasters has been a hot topic of discussion for all of our recorded history (and probably even before then). I don’t think this is going to change anytime soon.

We have another such prediction coming up next year. This one is from the Mayans with the December 21, 2012 end date. Unfortunately there are no Mayans left to ask about this since they all disappeared quite some time ago.

Personally, I do not think the world is going to “end” next year either. I do however think that we could experience some life changing things in our near future.

The New Madrid earthquake fault line in America could very likely experience some strong activity. This could result in devastating changes in America if a huge earthquake were to hit there.

The U.S. Navy Earth Change Map also shows what America could look like in the future. I guess my dream home in the French Quarter in New Orleans, LA will be gone :(

So, what do you think will happen? Discuss!

Medical Tourist

With all of the recent talk about the national healthcare reform here in America, and the bill passing last night, it is without a question a hot topic.

I don’t think that the nation should enforce people having healthcare unless they can supply it for people who cannot afford it. Taxing people extra money they don’t have if they can’t afford the insurance is just ridiculous and really presses our “freedom” and “rights.” It will be interesting to see how it all plays out in the coming weeks, months and years.

Don’t get me wrong though, I think that we should all have healthcare (which should also include oral care and all sub-cares people need). I just don’t think that we should be forced to purchase sub-par healthcare. If they want everyone to be equal and have the same healthcare, then everyone up to the Senators, Governors and even the President should have the same type of service, right? Anyways…

Have you thought about being a medical tourist? It might be something people go for more often in this country if the healthcare quality is lowered in America. Some already leave our country for medical, dental and surgical needs due to money or higher care in other countries.

Sure, we’ve all heard and seen horror stories about bad breast augmentation, nose jobs, liposuctions, etc done in other countries. We don’t see all the good ones though. Those same surgeries have horror stories from some surgeons here in America too.

I wouldn’t personally ever get an elective (or needed) surgery performed from a doctor that I didn’t research fully, meet with well beforehand and feel comfortable with. However, I do see how medical tourism could be a very alluring idea for some people, myself included depending on circumstances. I wouldn’t set it up either to pretend to be a vacation, it isn’t. Unless maybe dental care… the rest would be too painful to enjoy any of the special and fun things the resort or wherever offered, don’t you think?

So, my questions for you:
• What do you think of this healthcare reform that passed last night?
• What do you think of medical tourism?
• Would you ever opt to go out of the country for a procedure (either due to cost or higher quality care elsewhere)?

Stem Cells

I did a report on stem cell research when I was in high school, so almost 10 years ago (wow it is scary writing that). It was one of my first really big research papers.

Stem cells were hugely controversial then, and still are really. My teacher even said I should maybe go another route with the paper, but I didn’t – I like a challenge.

The embryonic stem usage I don’t agree with, but the adult stem cells used to treat yourself, I don’t see any harm in that. I’ve always supported it because I can see the huge medical advances we can make with it to help people.

I understand the religious and political reasons for those who do not support this. I just don’t quite get why they don’t want this to be researched. If you don’t support it, instead of just maybe un-following me or calling me an awful person, please let me know why you think what you do about stem cells.

Since I wrote that research paper, much more has been discovered on stem cell research. There is even a Stem Cell Bank! New information about stem cell research is being found everyday, and it really does amaze me. The possibility to cure some diseases and repair organs is quite amazing.

If you want to learn more about stem cells, check out this You Tube video:

How do you feel about stem cell research? Are you really for or against this topic? What does your religion say about stem cells? Do you know anyone who has used stem cells in any way? Would you want to go this route if possible if you needed an organ or something to be healed?

I won’t be mad or angry with any comments or feedback left on this one, and if you want to be anonymous, go ahead. I just want to know what you guys all think about this controversial topic.

Pray for Camila and those in Chile

I’ve mentioned before that I’ve been sponsoring a child through Children International in Chile since 2004. Her name is Camila and she lives in central Chile but I’m not exactly sure towards which direction of where the 8.8 earthquake was strongest.

I’ve been praying that she and her family are okay. Unfortunately I probably won’t know for awhile if she is or not. I did write an e-mail asking to be updated as possible from that field office when they can. I will post on here if you want to be updated too when I found out something.

So, while we wait I ask those of you that do pray to please pray for her too. If you don’t pray, then please send out positive energy or something.

Thank you.

Alabama – 2009 National Champions!

Anyone else watch the college football National Championship game last night? It is a big deal here in Alabama. My whole family are Alabama fans and most of the area I’m in are too. There are some Auburn fans (the other team in the state of Alabama) but who counts them really?

The game was great and Texas put up a good fight for awhile, but Alabama won 37-21. Here are some highlights of the year with the Ala Freakin Bama song playing!

You Tube Fun

Who doesn’t love youtube.com at least a little? I’m not one who visits everyday for hours by any means. I’m more of an occasional video surfer for particular things I want to see.

Let The Sun Shine

Today it finally was slightly sunny. We had a huge amount of rain here this week in the Southeastern portion of USA.

Luckily I live where it is very unlikely to flood. We have a big lake behind our house, but with the dams we should be fine. Although, the first time I ever came here the bridge on our road did wash out…

In case you didn’t see this on the news, check out what Six Flags in Atlanta, GA looked like from the flooding issues caused by all this rain.

Swine Flu – Heidi and Spencer Style

We all know about the whole Swine Flu scare and how it might turn into a “pandemic” (hopefully it won’t). Here is some Swine Flu news to make you laugh – or at least make me laugh.

Newlyweds Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag don’t let the Swine Flu stand in their way of a honeymoon in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

Here are some pictures that seriously make me laugh every time I see them (from TMZ and PacificCoastNewsOnline).

Another funny bit from TMZ was when they asked Paris Hilton if she was worried about the Swine Flu and she said “No” because “she doesn’t eat that.” Priceless.

The Real Weapon of Mass Destruction

Check out this article that was just published less than an hour ago confirming that, “North Korea defiantly carried out a provocative rocket launch Sunday that the U.S., Japan and other nations suspect was a cover for a test of its long-range missile technology.”

"We cannot contain our disappointment and regret over North Korea's reckless act," presidential spokesman Lee Dong-kwan told reporters Sunday. He said the launch of the long-range rocket "poses a serious threat to security on the Korean peninsula and the world."

Obama said Friday the launch would be "provocative" and said the U.S. would "take appropriate steps to let North Korea know that it can't threaten the safety and security of other countries with impunity."

So, what does that mean for us? Are we leaving one war to go into another one in the very near future with North Korea now? Could this mean the world may really end in 2012? If I were to ask my 8-ball I’m sure it would say “Outlook Not So Good.”

Vampire Skull Found!

Look what I found on Yahoo! News this morning. Their website has a video to go with it too! Check it out.

The remains of a medieval “vampire” were discovered in Venice, Italy among the corpses of 16th century plague. The body of the woman was found in a mass grave on the Venetian island of Lazzaretto Nuovo. Back then people suspected of being vampires shoved a large rock into the mouths of the dead to prevent them from chewing through the gravesite and infecting others from the plague, said anthropologist Matteo Borrini of the University of Florence.

How interesting!

They also link to an article about how they claim vampires can be “debunked” here. However, I completely do not agree with their logic. I also find it funny that the professor debunking it is from the university I graduated from. Anyways, Efthimiou's debunking logic: On Jan 1, 1600, the human population was 536,870,911. If the first vampire came into existence that day and bit one person a month, there would have been two vampires by Feb. 1, 1600. A month later there would have been four, and so on. In just two-and-a-half years the original human population would all have become vampires with nobody left to feed on.

I don’t know if vampires exist or not, I kinda hope they do. I’m weird I know. But if they did, I don’t think they would go around killing people every night and turning them into a vampire. It is more likely they just feed when they have to and they rarely turn others into vampires. If they are real, I also think that we probably have met some and didn’t even know it. What do you think?

Suspect Turned Into a Goat!

In Lagos, Nigeria one of their biggest daily newspapers recently reported that police implicated a goat in an attempted automobile theft. Vanguard newspaper reported that “two men tried to steal a Mazda car two days earlier in Kwara State, with one suspect transforming himself into a goat as vigilantes cornered him.”

As reported in this article, the newspaper quoted policeman Tunde Mohammed saying that while one suspect escaped, the other transformed into a goat as he was about to be apprehended. Belief in black magic is widespread in Nigeria, especially in rural areas.

Was this a shape-shifting human to a goat, a high policeman - or something else? What do you think?

Big Brother Will Be Watching...

I came across this article today almost by accident. It is something we should all take a few minutes to read though. Why? Because it has to do with something we all have, at least right now... Internet privacy, well for the most part. Here is the article below, or you can click on that link to go straight to it.

Government to allow private firms to monitor every move we make. I’m moving to China.
By: Mike Butcher on December 31, 2008

It will cost £12 billion, be run by private companies and track every move you make on the internet, every call, text message and every transaction. Yes, this is the UK government proposal to manage and run a communications database that will make Chinese attempts to control and monitor its citizens look like “light touch” regulation.

The only difference with one-party states like China (ok, so apart from the summary trials and executions) is that the government claims that it will not look at the content on our every electronic interaction, but merely at the points of entry. The “pings”, if you like, to use a geek term.

Of course, this is incorrect. By building up a database about our movements - our morning rituals of checking emails, visiting web sites, buying online - this will build up a pattern. This in itself is “content”. This will create a pattern of recognition about our movements. Plus how long would it be before they start to argue that they need to see the content as well? Curiously, because so few people in China - relatively speaking - are online and/or using credit cards, China will look pretty free compared to our electronically driven society.

I could write a 1,000 more words more on this subject. For now the scale of the project beggars belief. From a government which has presided over countless numbers of security breaches, including a missing CD containing every child’s name and address in the UK, it is an amazing act of hubris. Plus, it comes in the wake proposals by the Ministry of Truth (Ok, so the Department of Culture, Media and Sport) to regulate content. So now we are watched as we go online, and the content we view is to be rated and standardised. Welcome to Britain in the 21st Century.

The more salient point to note for TechCrunch readers is that the impact on British online business will be significant. At a time when one of the few areas of growth in the economy is the digital sector, the UK government wants to look over the shoulder of the consumer when they go online. Will this make them feel safer, or preyed upon? Feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments below.

Lady Paints Entire Car With Nail Polish

Maryland woman, Jill Bell has hit the headlines with her car’s paint job. It isn’t a new shade of blue, red or silver. No, it is many different shades of every color. She used nail polish to paint her entire 1993 Saturn in a quilt-like pattern!

It didn’t perhaps start out to be such a task though. Two winters ago, she thought it would be appropriate to paint a Band-Aid on the dent of her car. While it would have been rather cute if left there, she went further with the nail polish after she saw it survived the ice and snow of winter.

According to this article, over the next 13 months, from September 2007 to this past October, she completely covered her car in a quilt-like pattern – as a quilter, she found the multi-pattern paint job fitting, she said.

Just how many bottles of nail polish would this endeavor take? Bell said that she collected about 100 to 250 bottles of nail polish, but was unsure of how many were used. She also accepted donations of nail polish from anyone who wanted to give them. Most came from ladies at her church and from women at Weight Watchers.

The dollar value on this unique paint job is also undetermined. Each brand charges different amounts, but most used were anywhere from under a dollar to $5.

Bell said that, “while children seem to flock to her car, many adults give her strange looks.” I would look at it a bit strangely too. Even though I like art, I would not want it be on my car. But, whatever floats your boat or um, car.

What are your thoughts on this unique paint job?

Soft Drink Tax?

While doing my Spark Points this morning, I came across this article about a possible tax that might be coming to New Yorkers. Since New York is facing a $15 billion deficit this year and next, New York Governor David Paterson unveiled a plan that would bring $404 million to the state. Seems like quite a big chunk of cash, but he has a $121 billion budget for 2009 and is pushing this soft drink tax as an “obesity tax” to help pay for some of this budget.

His proposal puts a tax of about 15% on non-diet drinks. This includes soda and all sugary drinks containing less than 70% fruit juice. Drinks not affected by this tax include milk, real fruit juice, diet soda and bottled water.

In my opinion, the governor should trim down his state budget before imposing new taxes on the people. I always vote against raising taxes. If the people get to vote on this, hopefully they will do the same.

Calling this an “obesity tax” is absurd and offensive. Not everyone who drinks soda is obese and surely not all who are drink regular soda. How very unpolitically correct to call it such a thing.

What are your thoughts on this proposed new tax?
