Flashback Friday – Hypercolor T-Shirts

Hypercolor was a popular line of clothing (mainly shirts and shorts) from the late 1980s to the early 1990s that changed color with heat. If you really want to know about how they changed color, I suggest going to look at the Wiki page on it.

Hypercolor shirts were soooo cool when I was in elementary school. I had a few. One was purple that changed to pink and the other was blue that changed to yellow or green I think. I thought I was really cool wearing it. It was the trend. My friends all had Hypercolor shirts too. I remember standing in line for recess or lunch or wherever and we’d all breathe on eachother’s to turn them colors. Oh the memories of being young and buying into these fads.

I never had the shorts, and I don’t remember anyone who had them. Who would ever want to wear those?!? It would show off if you are hot “down there” and would be awkward getting up after sitting down in them. No thanks!

While I was browsing the internet looking for pictures of these shirts, I came across this article from July of 2008 announcing that “Hypercolor is hot again.” Here is a picture of the “new” dress from Anzevino and Florence tank dress costing $84. I don’t remember how much the shirts were originally, but I know for certain they were nowhere near that! What a rip-off! The article goes into depth more places you can get new types of Hypercolor spin-off products, if you are interested. I for one will not be buying into this “trend” ever again. It was fun while being a kid, but as an adult I think I will pass.

Another great flashback! I know I had one (maybe even two) of these shirts. I had to wear uniforms to school, so I don't have those memories at school. But I do remember on Thanksgiving we spent at my aunts (when these things very first came out) and we all were wearing them (because, if I recall, my mom bought and handed them out that day) and we spent the day from sitting inside in a very warm house to running outside to quickly get cold and watch our shirts change. Fun times!

Ha! I had a friend who had the shorts. It was never, ever a good look, if for no other reason - you are always going to be warmer in the "creases" area. Kind of like your armpit is likely warmer than your arm.

So yeah, Matt wore them a lot and it was never cool. I had a shirt, and I loved it :)

Yah I agree with you. Who would want their underarms a different color than the rest of them? Ha!

Man I remember those, but we couldn't afford them, so I could only lust from afar! I always wondered, yeah I am a freak, what if you were macking with your boy and went to class and...handprints were where you would NOT want them to be?! ROFL!

Hypercoler T-Shirts rocked. I had one that I used to wear all the time with spandex biking shorts when I was in high school... I think I completely dated myself.
