Flashback Friday – Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, Michael Jackson

It has been said many times that things happen in threes. The past few days three of Hollywood’s biggest stars have passed away. In respect to them, I am doing my Flashback Friday on them.

Ed McMahon died at age 86 on Tuesday June 23, 2009. I’m not sure how he died, but I did read that his publicist said that he had a “multidue of health problems the last few months.”

He was best known for the “Tonight” show with Johnny Carson as his sidekick and his “Heeeeeeeeere’s Johnny!” for 30 years. I was too young to remember him from the “Tonight” show, but I do remember him very well from Star Search. I used to watch that show religiously and some of our greatest current talent came from there – think Jim Carrey, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, etc.

Farrah Fawcett very publicly announced she was dying of cancer. She never gave up and though and was an inspiration to everyone who either had cancer or knows someone who has. She died yesterday at age 62 from a three year battle of cancer

Her most famous roles included the hit TV series in the 1970s – Charlie’s Angels and The Six Million Dollar Man. She earned an emmy nomination for her role in a TV movie called The Burning Bed. She also appeared in The Apostle, Dr. T and the Women, Spin City, and Ally McBeal just to name a few.

Her hairstyle named the “Farrah” was copied by hundreds of thousands of women. I think my mom even had her hairstyle or something similar to it once.

Michael Jackson’s death was the most shocking of all. He was only 50 years old and seemed to be in good health after passing the series of tests and physicals for him to go back on tour in London. However he died of cardiac arrest yesterday.

Regardless of if you liked him or not, you have to admit he was very influential in the music and dance industry all around the world. I bet if aliens saw him, they probably tried to do the moonwalk too.

I loved Michael Jackson back in the day. I was too young to have been around when the Jackson Five were around, but I do remember when he was very popular in the 80s and 90s. I never had his CDs, but I do have his best hits on my iPod now.

My favorite songs by him were “Thriller” and “Billie Jean.” So, I have added the videos here for you to enjoy – it took me awhile to find ones that were embeddable!

I can’t leave out his dancing either, so here is a really good video I found on YouTube featuring Michael Jackson’s best dance moves.

Rest In Peace

ah... this week's news are so shocking, but the one shocked me the most was of course M.J, I didn't hear anything of him for years (or months) and suddenly he's all over the news, claimed dead. :(

I may not be his biggest fan, but he's THAT famous, I couldn't help but feel so shocked when I heard the news.

May they all rest in peace

It has been a sad week. Charlies Angels was one of my FAV shows. Ed was amazing on the Tonight Show. And Michael--his music and his videos were part of my childhood. So many things in my childhood that I can think of are all surrounded by his music. He was an AMAZING artist, singer and dancer. They will all be missed!!

i suspect that, since there's more celebrities than ever right now, it's going to seem like a lot are passing on around the same time; RIP in any case

It is weird when the stars of your childhood start passing.
That poster of Farah, I swear I think every boy in middle and high school had it and all the girls tried to do that hairstyle!

I remember when they debuted Thriller on MTV, oh, my gosh, it was a biiiig deal!

My mom was talking about how it's sad that Michael's death is overshadowing Farrah's.
But I can understand why. We knew she was dying, no matter how sad it was.
But Michael just dropped dead out of nowhere. People texted me from everywhere. "Oh my god, michael jackson died!"

But I just saw this funny tweet on Erin's blog.
"Heeeeeeeeeere's Farrahhhhhh!"
"Heeeeeeeeeere's Michaellllll!"
God: "Damnit Ed. Cut it out."

Lee - LOL that text cracked me up. I also have to agree it does overshadow but Michael was a much bigger star - and he just died out of nowhere. All of them dying is sad though.

*SIGH* This week has been really overwhelming. I feel like hiding under my bed with all of the dust bunnies until it passes.

I will truly hold in my heart the three people who have touched my childhood in one way or another.

Ed, Farrah, and MJ may you rest with the angels. You will surely be missed!

What a wonderful post Sheri. Love Ya!

Wow. I just read on Yahoo! News that Billy Mays just died too. Not of their influence and fame, but still.
