Death of a PC

Somewhere I got malware.

I was unaware.

Until it was too late –

Restore and recovery

Weren’t the fate

Of my late PC.

Wow. I haven't written a poem or anything for years yet that one came to me while trying to think of how to put together a post about the death of my computer.

It has been dying slowly the past few years (it is almost 5 years old). The printer died fully this week and now the computer itself died on me last night/this morning.

I got some annoying malware (yes I used malware bytes even and tons of other "protection" tools). It was supposedly gone after quite a few hours working on it and then bang! I got another one somehow - this one much worse as I couldn't get rid of it even in "safe mode." So after attempting system restore (didn't work), I decided to backup what I could and then do a system recovery.

It didn't work. I don't know if it is because I was using a new graphics card or the monitor was new - but it wouldn't work. I could hear something going on (music) but it just was stuck on the "Please wait while Windows is starting..." for hours.

Not something I really wanted to deal with today, but I had to. I checked out prices of computers at Best Buy, Sam's Club and Dell. Looks like I will either be going with Dell or Best Buy. Not yet though. For now I'm just going to use the laptop and connect that to the monitor (22 inch baby) and double screen it when doing things like gaming and writing. Maybe in a few months I can buy one of the computers on sale or something, when I have the funds to do so.

I won't be going on Facebook often (think rarely) and any internet surfing I will be doing will be much more cautious (even in Windows 7). Besides that, I dunno what else to do really.

What programs do you suggest using and what keeps your computers clean as a whistle? (I thought mine was pretty good too by the way, I used AVG, Malware Bytes, CCleaner, Registry Cleaner, etc).

When is the best time to buy a computer? Any (good price) on gaming computers you know of? I don't need the monitor. :) Let me know!

We use MacAfee. I think it's like $65 for a year, but it's worth it.

I've been using Norton 360 and so far so good.

*crosses fingers*

The techies at my work just started using Spybot. Might be worth a look, at least.

Good luck!

You know I get your PAIN! I have nothing to say, I use Malware, Ad Aware and Norton and still get crap as you know. I wanted to try AVG but it won't let Norton run so I deleted it.

Oh, you poor thing. About two months ago I had a whole bunch of problems with my laptop. I am lucky because my husband owns his own company we have a Computer Service. I took it in and they cleaned it up but I never realized how dangerous Facebook was until they told me. They explained that it was pretty unavoidable, people love the site and other social networking sites but those sites they say are the worst. Anyways, long story short, yes, it is good to have protection but it is best to get your computer cleaned by the experts every 6 to 8 months. It is well worth the cost. It saves on computers and headaches. We just put it in the budget and now we have very little computer problems, knocking on wood.

I'm so sorry about your computer. I had some computer guy put on a security protection, though I'm not sure what it is!

Sorry to hear about your computer. I hope you get a new one soon. I'm not sure about all that software. We don't use Microsoft (AKA Microdeath...LOL). We've been Mac users since 2002.
