Toothache Hell

I have no insurance – health or dental. One of the many benefits of living in the good ole’ USA with no national insurance of any type and doctor fees too high to go visit any without. Luckily I am pretty healthy, I just really need to go to the dentist. If it were just a cleaning and maybe a filling I wouldn’t be too worried. However, I have a sinking feeling it is much more than that…

I’ve had cavities filled before; my wisdom teeth have been taken out too. However, this tooth ache I have had for about a month now is hurting much worse than any cavity I’ve ever needed filled. This leads me to think horrible, awful things… root canal, crown, tooth being pulled out completely, maybe two root canals, oh the horror! I can’t even chew on the right side of my mouth and now it seems like 3 teeth are hurting, or it might just be that one that pulses pain throughout that side of the mouth. I’m not sure.

Where are those cocaine toothache drops when you need them? Oh, yeah… they were banned a long time ago.

My question to you guys is one of HELP. Do you know of any dental plans or insurance or anything that are legit and actually help? I’ve tried looking some up but I just don’t know which are real and which look like they are a rip off. I know I can’t afford a root canal without it, if that is what I need. Some don’t even pay for that until after a year – which I cannot wait that long if this is what it is. Thanks in advance.

Its the same in the UK where you have to pay for dental treatment which is a fortune so I haven't been for years because I can't afford it. But we do have dental hospitals where they train soon to be dentists and it doesn't cost, so do you have anything over there that you could go to.

Have you looked into Colleges with Dental departments that need people for their students to work on? That is where my sister Kate, also no dental, went for her mouthpiece, UCONN has a dental clinic. Maybe there are some schools with dental clinics in Florida??

Oh I've had times without insurance and they are no fun.

I'm sorry for your tooth pain. I totally understand that. Perhaps it's just an infection and you could take some cheapo antibiotics? We'll hope that's all it is!

Oh...and here where I live there is a dental school so they are much much cheaper, if not free. look into something like that near you?

It might be too late for Insurance. If you continue to let it fester it could get very serious. Something that might have been simple and you could have made payments on might balloon if you don't get it checked. Many dentists do allow you to make payments if you explain up front, it is worth a shot. Really, don't let it go an infection is an infection, it will spread and get worse. Oh, goodness, I'm sorry the mothering is coming out in me.

Can offer no help...even w/insurance it's still a huge chunk OOP. Most of my friends who don't have it do payment plans. I think Dentists prob make more than doctors!
