Flashback Friday – Boy Bands

Ah – the 90s were such a sweet time for the Boy Bands, wasn’t it? We had New Kids on the Block, The Backstreet Boys, N*Sync, Boyz II Men, 98 Degrees, LFO, Take 5, O-Town, and others I forgot the names of. I did buy those issues of BOP and BIG BOPPER for the posters and taped them on my walls like wallpaper. Ahh the memories.

I absolutely loved New Kids on the Block when they were popular. I had the cassettes (CDs weren’t out then), a nightgown, a sleeping bag, pins, posters, shirts, folders, etc. I was still in elementary school then, so it wasn’t quite as geeky as it sounds (okay, maybe it is still even then but whatever). I am however not fond of them anymore, and their “comeback” isn’t something I praise or want to listen to. Sorry NKOTB!

My next obsession was The Backstreet Boys. Oh how cute they were! I remember watching their videos on MTV. I even remember when I first saw “Quit Playing Games With My Heart.” I saw them in concert at a tornado relief fund in Orlando outside of the Hard Rock Café area at Universal Studios. I was with a few friends and we were by the side part where the other singers hung out with the fans. BSB were just too cool for us. Brian and Howie came over for about 30 secs to sign one autograph for a photo op. That ruined them for me (at least personality wise). However, guess who else was at this concert? N*Sync!!!

N*Sync became my next obsession (and final). They only released their first single of “I Want You Back” maybe a week before the first concert I saw with them, and I brought it with me (in hopes of getting it signed). Guess what? I totally did! JC was amazed someone was actually there with it I think and he signed it and talked to me and my friends for at least 10 minutes. He was sweet and gave us hugs. I saw N*Sync a few years later with my best friend and my mom (she liked it too though). I saw Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera a few years later (I won tickets actually and had really great seats woot). N*Sync was by far my favorite boy band. They had the best songs and had the cutest guys which is really all that matters, right?

Did you like the boy bands too? Did the boy bands craze take over your pre-teen and teen life? Tell me about your memories of this too!

* I hope these videos stay up, sometimes they get turned off and I have to go back and try to find them again elsewhere (talk about annoying).

I was a major Backstreet Boys fan, I had posters all over my room, read their book, had all their albums and they were all I cared about during my teen years. I even ran up a huge phone bill requesting their songs on the music channels which didn't go down well with my mum!!

I don't think the bands that are around now are as strong and their music is a bit naff to me. Bring back the proper boy bands of the 90s.

I somehow managed to escape the boy bands as a kid, but my baby sister was the biggest New Kids on the Block fan alive. I was into hair bands... does that count? *rocking out to Faster Pussycat!* :D

I had the BOP wall paper too! I think back to how much was spent on those magazines and I think I could send both my kids to college anywhere they want. I was mostly an NSync fan. NKOTB were over by the time I cared about boy bands. BSB was cool but when I foun dout how old Kevin was it creeped me out that he sang to preteens. My husband refers to them as the Back Door Boys. He was obviously not a fan.

@ Leetid - I totally agree, none can compare to them!

@ Bobby G - That is funny, and don't be embarrassed for sharing! <3

@ Jenny Beans - LoL No worries, I liked metal too. Weird combo for a kid huh?

@ girl in the stiletto - I agree! :)

@ Lucky Irish Gal - OMG I know! I used to get my parents to get me those magazines all the time (not in a subscription either). Oh how much money that was eek.

Though, thinking of it now.. I'd totally get them if I were that age for the Robert Pattinson pics... <3

You really awaken the teen girl in me. She's a major fan of BSB, NKOTB, N Sync, and several other boybands. LOL.

I was so into NKOTB. I had so many posters of them on my wall that you couldn't see the wall. I was never into Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, etc.... I was older by the time they became popular. I was into more alternative by then.

I was big into N*Sync!! I had a crush on Lance Bass. Too bad he's gay now. I also had a thing for 98 degrees. Not so much the Backstreet Boys though.
